Thorough cleaning, not only above
but also beneath the gums

Why professional dental cleaning alone is not usually sufficient

Dental hygiene involves more than just thorough cleaning of the surfaces of the teeth, which is
normally achieved by professional dental cleaning above the gums (supragingivally). Even thorough
cleaning – by means of dental floss, interdental brushes, or the best toothbrushes the market has
to offer – is not sufficient to clean all points at which plaque may form. Deposits which may lead
to caries or, in the long term when cleaning is inadequate, to periodontitis, may often be hidden
beneath the gums (subgingivally). We therefore consider appropriate dental hygiene to be of crucial
importance, both for the prevention of periodontitis, and as preparatory and post-treatment (recall)
care among periodontitis patients.

The best training in important therapy, in the interests of retaining your teeth

Our dental hygienists are experts who have received dedicated training in this field. In dental hygiene,
we evaluate the health of the teeth and gums; and we advise you in detail on the specific causes re-
sponsible in your case and on the occurrence of caries, gingivitis and periodontitis. It is also important
that we identify any eating habits that may be harmful to the teeth. Periodontists and dental hygienists
work closely together in our practice. In both cases, you are in the hands of skilled professionals. The
patient's first session in our practice is always held with the dentist himself, who produces a precise
diagnosis of the condition of your teeth.

Following thorough and careful cleaning, we polish your teeth. As a result, no bacteria are able to adhere
to the smooth surfaces for a certain period. Depending upon your particular needs, we may also fluoridize
your teeth.

All treatment has the aim of keeping the teeth and gums healthy and of halting any further disease caused
by hidden bacteria, which could lead to the loss of tissue and bone.

Regular recalls should take place two to four times a year, according to your particular treatment needs.

Dental hygiene is an important factor in the retention of teeth. In our practice, it is conducted with the
utmost care and in accordance with the latest technical innovations and specialist knowledge. Profes-
sional dental hygiene not only gives the patient spotless, shining teeth and therefore greater confidence,
but also has a positive impact upon his or her health in general. The mouth is where good health starts.
